CAPM: a knowledge foundation
PMI currently lists a secondary degree or equivalent plus 23 hours of project management education. The 150-question, 180-minute exam covers fundamentals, predictive methods, agile and business analysis.
PMP: documented leadership experience
PMP fits professionals responsible for project planning, decisions and outcomes who meet PMI’s current education, experience and training routes. The exam is currently 180 questions in 240 minutes and includes Arabic.
A practical decision
If you cannot document the required project leadership experience, assess CAPM rather than buying a PMP pathway you cannot apply for. If you qualify for PMP and already lead projects, map your gaps against the current exam outline before choosing training.
